Use of Synthetic Ligands for Purification of Sialic-Acid Containing, Recombinant Proteins and Viral Antigens

Based on the governmental (BMBF) funding program ”Contest to support biotechnological production sites development of novel downstream processes“ a network has been initiated in October 2008. The team combines interdisciplinary endeavors from scientists of three German companies and the research groups of Prof. Seidel-Morgenstern (Otto-von-Guericke University, Magdeburg), Prof. Sundmacher (Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems, Magdeburg) and Prof. Laufer (Eberhard Karls University Tübingen).

The main aspect is the development of affinity separation methods for recombinant proteins, viral particles and viral antigens. The tasks are subdivided into four working packages focusing on pharmaceutically relevant targets, mathematical models for adsorption membrane chromatography, and hands on training sessions for students.
